A diasporic structure of affect and name branding


The desire for a positive image and the associated branding, the longing for distinction, the thirst for joyful pride, the want for seamless belonging, all fostering access to a mode of cultural power; they generate a structure of affect that rewards those who feed it while displaying severe intolerance to those who advocate its reflexive examination.

One implication? Consent to this structure of affect, invest in public relations with its vast social networks, hone the appropriate oratory, bring it home, and, voila, a celebrity cultural commentator.
